Here are some of the highlights from The Dimes Classic Men's Basketball Tournament in 2013. Going on its 56th year of existence, it maintains its legacy as a prestigious spring tournament that plays host to professional basketball players from the NBA, NBA D-League, FIBA Pro leagues, and high level NCAA programs. All proceeds raised at this event are distributed to local Sacramento charities. I am proud to say that 2014 will be my 9th year directing the tournament and it promises to be more exciting than ever before!!!
Networking for coaches is most effective face to face at coaching clinics, coach's socials or tournaments. Because of the strain on time, social media networks such as helps but more on the professional level then the high school and college level.

I find amazing how many of these items I don't even know about. Obviously Microsoft suite would be a common tool, but I find it surprising how social media would be considered "Learning Tools", as opposed to platforms such as Moodle. The speed at which Web 2.0 shares information is amazing. The usefulness in everyday life, much less education, is priceless. As stated, education is being revolutionized by colleges such as University of Phoenix, but whats even more interesting is the paradigm shift and the rate at which it is effecting
It's a fact that technological devices have become the center pieces of our culture and a very powerful phenomenon forever impacting the way and rate that we view and exchange data. I firmly believe that, as educators, we must evolve and incorporate these devices and technologies into our curriculum design. For Physical Education and coaching purposes, many of the items that we have learned about so far are relevant and will be applied in my career. I was not aware how easy it was to have a PWP but will develop and use I developed in this class because I believe it helps in displaying a professional image and provides more tools than just social media. I have already incorporated social media into my coaching practices for the ease of mass communication with team or supporters, recruiting new student-athletes, or just for the sake of having a central place for information. Blogging is something that I will incorporate more as I grow professionally and build a network. Once I begin my career as a kinesiology instructor I will utilize podcasts because our students are becoming only more mobile and learning on-the-go is common.
It is a fact that the World Wide Web can be extremely helpful for academic purposes. The article Social Networking in Undergraduate Education states that the internet has made the access to an abundance of information so easy that it has caused a paradigm shift from traditional text book learning to technology integrated learning experiences. The article also discusses a few studies where the efficacy of social media in education and demonstrates a different aspects depending on gender and major. I agree that in order to stay current with trends most educators have attempted to adopt these practices, including the use of Learning Management Systems (LMS's) such as Blackboard and even social media such as Twitter and Facebook. It is my opinion that even though social media enables students to connect easier on a personal level, my experience is that the LMS platforms are much more effective when it comes to academics. I think when instructors use social media to accommodate or encourage students to connect, the line is blurred between personal and professional or academic relationships. If used within certain boundaries, I think social media can assist in creating a positive learning environment, but LMS's should be used as primary
