Coach Michael Lorente is finishing his first year as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at American River College. With over 13 years of experience between club, high school, and community college, Coach Lorente is tasked with on-floor coaching, practice and game management duties, player development, scouting and recruiting. Coach Mike also serves as administrative coordinator for basketball operations and information.
Prior to joining the ARC coaching staff, Coach Lorente spent three seasons with Cosumnes River College, where he assisted with strength and conditioning, player development and on-floor coaching. During the 2009-2010 season, he help the Hawks win 22 games and make a CCCAA sweet-sixteen appearance. He assisted in recruiting, developing, and advancing All-State players, 4-year college transfers and professional players such as Charles Standifer (UC Riverside), Josh McCarver (CSU Sacramento/France Pro Leagues), Anthony Johnson (East Tennessee State/Canada Pro Leagues), Corey Zackery (IUPUI), Jamelle Barrett (European Pro Leagues), Tauran Moore (CSU East Bay/Asian Basketball Leagues) and Gabriel Strong. Additionally, Coach Lorente has served as the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Rocklin High School (2010-2012) and as an Assistant Coach at Capital Christian (2004-2007). He also has coached with many area AAU clubs including NorCAL Pharoahs Elite, NorCal Elite, and YBA. Annually, Michael directs the legendary Dimes Classic Men’s Basketball Tournament (2005-current) and continues to work with various area camps and clinics in the off season.
Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Michael played his ball at Oakland Christian High School, Olivet College, and enjoyed a brief stint with the semi-professional team, the Detroit Dogs. He is a proud alumnus of CSU Sacramento where he holds a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Administration and pursuing a Master of Arts in Kinesiology through Fresno Pacific University. He currently resides in Sacramento with his fiancé Andrea and their son, Santino.
